McClelland Golf Club Click Here for Berwick Montuna Teams So it was off to Pakenham this month with the format
of the day being Matchplay, the pairings were set by the order of handicap
in the club with the intention of having each match as evenly paired
as possible, with the overall winner/loser of the day determined by
the biggest winning margin. Congratulations to all the days winners! Bragging rights. Gav also failed to make the photo shoot …. again you’ll have to watch this space. Note, that as previously mentioned Andy Mac was going for the 3 NAGAs in a row but successfully managed to avoid keeping the trophy even though he was 5 down with 5 to play, Damien’s wallet did appear a bit fatter than when he started the day it must be said. With Gav’s failure to show it was an opportunity for Andy Mac
to get acquainted with his long lost buddy TWINS!!! Next month we are off to Berwick Montuna, March 9th, tee-off at 7.45
am This month saw the lads congregate at the Rosebud Country
Club with the format of the day to be the Callaway system. Sadly at the other end of the scale, under the days format, the collector of the NAGA fell to Andy Mac, and for the second month in a row did not show up for the photo shoot, watch this space…..
What was highlighted was the wide range of handicap we have in the club, with Alex shooting 78 at one end and Billy Mac shooting 128 at the other. Congratulations though to Billy who managed to keep the difference down to 50 thanks to his new driver, or he could have got a really bad score. Nearest the Pins went to Snappy Tom, Welshy x2 and Hughie Next outing is to Pakenham on 10th Feb and the format for that day will be a head to head matchplay starting with our 2 lowest handicappers and working our way down through the club This month saw the club venturing onto the pastures
of Devilbend after a lengthy lay-off due to the inclement weather at
Flinders last month.
Mitch, Snappy Tom and Tich (missing Rab)
Deeks, Tim and Barra (missing Andy Mac) – still
in the trees Congratulations to Damien and Anna on the birth of their daughter recently. Merry Christmas to all our members and their families
and to the wonderful ladies in the kitchen who put on a fantastic Christmas
dinner for us (even without the trifle). This months outing to Flinders turned out to be not much more than that, just an outing, with torrential wind and rain from the time of arrival it was voted that the lads would not be venturing out onto said course. There was also a touch of sadness attached to the day
as one of our members, Jack Jones, lost his battle with illness and
passed away on Friday, 26th October. Despite not being able to get out onto the course the
MGC gathered to send Jack off, after some kind words from Andy Mac the
club proposed a toast, then held a silence which flowed into a rousing
round of applause and finished off with the sound of the bagpipes. If
that wasn’t enough all the lads drove up to where Jack now is,
lined up down the fairway, and like a 23 gun salute, each fired a golf
ball into the ocean. The second outing of the season saw the lads at Carrington
Park, with grey skies and windy conditions it was good to see everyone
making the effort and turning up on time. The prizes were then given out to the ‘nearest
the pin’ and ‘longest drive’ winners who were; A special mention to Alan Anderson who continually donates these prizes, much appreciated. Stableford results for the day; Click Here For Carrington Park Teams The 07/08 season got under way on Sunday, 3rd Sept. at the magnificent Moonah Links With most of the crew gathered on time and a couple of members still in the land of nod having to receive an early/late phone call to stir them into action, the troops were into the golf carts and escorted to their relevant tees for a shotgun start, except for Andy Mac and Gaz who struggled with the concept of follow the leader and took an immediate right turn into the car park did a few laps, lost the rest of the group and had to be personally taken out by a different organiser. This had a roll on effect towards the rest of their team, Gav and Billy Mac, as at the end of play they took another wrong turn to exit the course and ended up bidding for property at a real estate auction in Rosebud, but 30 minutes after everyone else finished they made it back to the clubhouse safe and sound. The format of 4 ball ambrose seemed to suit the rusty participants, with the constant view of the McClelland search party cutting a familiar look across the plains of the peninsula throughout the day, to say we deposited a few golf balls around the course would be a fair assessment. With much spruiking around the traps in the weeks leading up to the first outing it would appear some people had given themselves a bit too much to live up to. The team of Snappy Tom, Damien and Alan had to play with one man down but this did little to curtail their quest to wear the first Harris Tweed of the season and thus came home with the goods. At the other end of the scale the NAGA (not a golfers ar@#*ole) trophy was presented to the team led by Deeks of Hughie, Clayton and Koala, it would appear a certain lack of team harmony may have contributed to this.
Scores: Team 2 - Snappy Tom, Damien, Alan (72) net 59.625 Team 6 - Gav, Andy, Gaz, Billy Mac (74) net 61.5 Team 3 - Tam, Mitch, Barra, Tich (74) net 62.25 Team 1- Joe, Smarty, Stevie, Tim (74) net 62.25 Team 5 - Rab, Jimmy, Winker, Baby Koala (76) net 63 Team 4 – Deeks, Hughie, Clayton, Koala (79) net 65.375
Nearest the Pins, only 2 of the 4 par threes were conquered with the winners being Damien and Hughie All in all a good day was had by all and bring the next one at Carrington Park on 30th Sept. Apologies to Gaz for failing to mention him as a new
inductee to the starting line up this season. The new golf season is almost upon us and another few months beckon on the lush fairways of the Peninsula for our cultured crew. This season opens on Sunday 2nd September, at the daunting Moonah Links. Could all our members please meet at 7.30 to allow us to get organised and we will take a team photo before tee-off at 8.00 a.m. This year sees the elevation through the ranks of a
couple of new captains to the fold, Joe and big ‘Sherbet Dab’
Rab and I’m sure their leadership qualities will shine through. This season we have the good fortune of having Ann Lee and her wonderful helpers to serve us on our return each month from the course, this gesture from the ladies really caps the day of perfectly and it just wouldn’t be the same without them, a massive Harris Tweed thanks to them all. |
